Aguas Frescas

I made this drink today from fresh strawberries we picked up from the Strawberry Street Festival near our house. The strawberries were very ripe and I was worried they wouldn't last until tomorrow. So, I washed and hulled them. Then, I pureed them in the blender. I added a little fresh lemon juice and simple syrup to taste. Before drinking, I chilled it. It's like drinking strawberries, except better! You can make this drink with any fresh fruit that's in season that will puree into a drinkable liquid.

Brunch at Black Sheep

With my sister in town this weekend, it was a great excuse to try out the brunch at Black Sheep. I didn't even have to look at the menu. I knew I wanted the sausage gravy biscuits. SM (my sister) got the Beret Frittata. MTH got the special - huevos rancheros with mole verde and black beans.

My sausage gravy biscuits were definitely not from a can at all. The biscuits were light and airy. The gravy was not too thick and not too white nor greasy. Plus, they didn't drown the biscuits in it.

SM's frittata had a nice dose of goat cheese that allowed for some in every bite. The broccoli was perfectly cooked.

MTH's huevos looked great. I didn't really get to try it because of the undercooked eggs. Oh well, I did get the fresh tomatoes that went with it. They were so good. No acidity at all - just sweet. I should have asked where they got their tomatoes from.

We bought a piece of the peanut butter pie to have as dessert with dinner. That was a nice ending to the day. The peanut portion of the pie is so light and airy, it's almost like peanut butter marshmallow cream. Then, the pie shell is some graham crackers with a nice layer of chocolate on top. I highly recommend this dessert when you go make your own visit.

Yoga Update

I have now been to the Yoga Source prenatal yoga class twice. I can definitely tell that it helps with opening up my abdomen area. The weekend before the class last week, I was feeling scrunched up. After the class, I felt taller and much more comfortable.

I am also going to try out a class at the Ashtanga studio. I won't be able to fit that into my schedule until next week. The one issue with that class is that it's at 5:30pm in Carytown. That's 25 minutes from work and I have to have time to change. That means I have to leave work by 4:45pm at the latest. That's a little early but I'm going to check out the class and then make a decision. I'll give another Yoga Update after that class next week.

When is a Miller Lite not a Miller Lite?

When you THINK it's a Harp. Yesterday at lunch, MTH ordered a Harp, it arrived, he drank it and didn't say anything about the taste. A little while later, the server stopped by to say that she was sorry becuase she had brought him a Miller Lite by accident. We all laughed about that one becuase he had no clue. And, the Miller Lite is half the price of Harp. I guess the Placebo effect is definitely real!
